🌿 Restoration of Lost Years
Scripture: “I will restore to you the years that the locust has eaten…” (Joel 2:25–27, NKJV)
Introduction
Life is filled with seasons. Some are fruitful and joyful, while others feel wasted and painful. Many believers look back and see years consumed by sin, sickness, brokenness, or delays. The enemy loves to whisper: “Those years are gone forever.” But our God is not only a Redeemer of souls—He is also a Restorer of years.
Joel 2:25–27 carries one of the most powerful promises in the Bible:
“I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpillar… And you shall eat in plenty, and be satisfied, and praise the name of the LORD your God.”
1. Understanding Lost Years
- Years stolen by the enemy (John 10:10).
- Years wasted in sin and rebellion (Luke 15:13 – the prodigal son).
- Years swallowed by affliction and sickness (Mark 5:25 – woman with issue of blood for twelve years).
- Years of delay and barrenness (Genesis 18 – Sarah’s long wait for Isaac).
- Years of missed opportunities when open doors seemed shut against you.
Each of us can identify a season where time felt wasted. Yet God’s word assures us that nothing is beyond His power to redeem.
2. The God Who Restores
God’s restoration is not just about returning what was lost—it is about multiplying it.
- Job’s story: After years of tragedy, God restored Job with double (Job 42:10).
- Joseph’s journey: Thirteen years of slavery and prison were turned into sudden elevation (Genesis 41:41–43).
- Isaiah 61:7: “Instead of your shame you shall have double honor.”
When God restores, He brings double honor, double blessing, and divine acceleration.
3. How God Restores Lost Years
- Through His Presence – Joel 2:27 says, “You shall know that I am in the midst of Israel.” Restoration begins when God is present.
- Through His Word – Psalm 107:20: “He sent His word and healed them.” Every prophetic word carries restoration power.
- Through Divine Acceleration – Amos 9:13 promises a time when the harvest will come so quickly that it overtakes the plowing.
- Through the Cross of Christ – At Calvary, Jesus bore our shame, delay, and wasted years so we could walk in newness of life (2 Corinthians 5:17).
4. Walking in Restoration
Restoration is not only a promise—it is a lifestyle we must embrace by faith:
- Believe that your lost years are not gone forever.
- Declare restoration over your life, health, family, and destiny.
- Pray prophetic prayers that call back lost opportunities.
- Walk in obedience so that restored years bring forth greater fruit than before.
Conclusion
The enemy counts years, but God redeems them. What you think is wasted, God can multiply. What you thought was over, God can resurrect.
Joel 2:26 gives us the final picture of restoration:
“You shall eat in plenty and be satisfied, and praise the name of the LORD your God, who has dealt wondrously with you; and My people shall never be put to shame.”
Your season of loss is ending. Your season of restoration has begun. Lift your heart and declare: “This is my year of restoration!”
