The Final Days

Decoding the Signs: Are We Approaching the Final Days?

“You will hear of wars and rumors of wars... Nation will rise against nation... There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains.”
Matthew 24:6-8

Introduction

In every generation, there have been those who have asked: “Are we living in the end times?” Yet today, this question seems more pressing than ever. As we witness global upheaval, moral decay, wars, plagues, and natural disasters increasing in frequency and intensity, many believers are beginning to look at Scripture with fresh urgency.

Are these random events, or are they prophetic signposts pointing to the return of Christ?

1. The Signs Jesus Gave Us

In Matthew 24, Jesus laid out specific indicators that would signal the end of the age. He spoke of:

  • Wars and rumors of wars – Global tension and conflict
  • Pestilences and famines – Diseases, pandemics, food shortages
  • Earthquakes in various places – Unpredictable and deadly natural disasters
  • Deception and false prophets – The rise of spiritual confusion and false messengers
  • Lawlessness and the love of many growing cold – A decaying moral climate

Many of these signs are no longer occasional headlines—they are daily realities.

2. Modern Events Through a Prophetic Lens

Let’s consider how recent global events may reflect biblical prophecy:

  • Pandemics (e.g., COVID-19) – Reminded the world how fragile our systems truly are.
  • Middle East conflicts – Especially concerning Israel and its neighboring nations, echo Ezekiel 38-39.
  • Technological control – From digital currency to surveillance, it hints at systems that could fulfill Revelation 13's “mark of the beast.”
  • Natural disasters – Increasing in frequency and intensity, like “birth pangs” mentioned by Jesus.

The convergence of these signs is what makes this season different. We are not merely seeing a sign—we are seeing many simultaneously.

3. The Role of the Church in These Times

In times of uncertainty, fear often dominates. But for the believer, these signs should not bring fear but faith and focus. Jesus told us not to be troubled (Matthew 24:6), but to watch and be ready (Matthew 24:42).

The Church is called to:

  • Stay awake spiritually – Refuse lukewarmness and distraction.
  • Preach the Gospel boldly – The harvest is ripe.
  • Walk in holiness and purity – As a bride prepared for her Bridegroom.
  • Discern the times – Not speculate, but understand spiritually what is unfolding.

4. What Should We Do Now?

  1. Draw near to God – Seek Him daily in prayer, worship, and the Word.
  2. Live as if Jesus is returning today – But plan wisely as if He tarries.
  3. Strengthen your spiritual foundation – Be rooted in truth so you're not swayed by deception.
  4. Be a light to others – Let your life and voice point people to Jesus.

Conclusion

We may not know the exact hour of Christ's return, but we are called to be discerning of the season. Like the sons of Issachar (1 Chronicles 12:32), we must understand the times and know what to do.

Jesus is coming again. The signs are all around us. The question is: Are we ready?

“Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.”
Luke 21:28
